Void Cheque
A void cheque is a paper cheque with “VOID” written across it so nobody can cash it. The routing numbers on it still show, so an employer or government office can set up direct deposit into your account. In Canada those numbers are the institution, transit, and account numbers. In the United States the same tool is a voided check, which shows the routing and account numbers. Many banks let you download a direct-deposit form instead of using a paper cheque.
