Safety Stock
Safety stock is extra inventory a business keeps on hand in case something goes wrong. It covers a late shipment, a supplier shutdown, or a week when customers buy more than usual. A drugstore that sells 50 bottles of shampoo a week might keep 70, so a delayed truck does not mean empty shelves. That buffer costs money to store, so companies choose how much extra they can afford.
