Old Age Security

Old Age Security (OAS)

Old Age Security (OAS) is a monthly federal benefit for seniors in Canada. The government pays it from general tax revenue, so it does not show up as a deduction on your pay stub. If a senior’s income is still low after OAS, they may also receive the Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS). OAS helps with basic costs in retirement. Most people still need savings, CPP, or another pension on top of it.
