Near-Miss

Near-Miss

A near-miss is an event that almost caused an injury or accident, but nobody was hurt. On a construction site, that might be a tool that slips off a scaffold and hits the ground instead of a coworker. The danger was real; luck is what changed the ending. New workers often will not see that risk until someone names it. Reporting a near-miss is part of your job. You flag the hazard so it gets fixed, instead of hoping the next person is as lucky as you were.
