Identity Theft
Identity theft is someone using your personal information as if they were you, in order to commit fraud. The information can include your name, date of birth, a Social Security number or Social Insurance Number, or account numbers. A common result is a credit card, a loan, a tax return, or a government benefit opened in your name. It can start with a stolen wallet, or with a text or email that gets you to share a code or a password.
