Emergency Fund

Emergency Fund

An emergency fund is savings set aside for large, unexpected expenses that could break your budget, such as a job loss, a major car repair, or a medical bill. It is separate from regular savings. Keep it in a savings account you can access quickly, not in investments.

A common first goal is one month of expenses; a longer-term goal is about six months. If you use the fund, rebuild it as soon as you can.
