Current Ratio

Current Ratio

The current ratio measures a company’s ability to cover short-term debts. It is current assets divided by current liabilities, using numbers from the balance sheet.

A higher ratio means more liquid assets are available to meet upcoming obligations. A ratio of 2 or higher is often seen as safe, but the right level varies by company. Analysts watch for a sharp drop from one period to the next, which can signal liquidity trouble.
