Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB)
The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) is the U.S. agency that oversees consumer financial products such as credit cards, loans, mortgages, and bank accounts. The Dodd-Frank Act created it after the 2008 financial crisis.
The CFPB takes complaints, supervises companies, and enforces federal consumer-finance laws. It does not lend, and it does not compile credit reports. If a company will not fix a problem, you can file a complaint with the CFPB.
