Commitment

Commitment (Consistency)

Commitment, also called consistency, is a persuasion principle: people want later choices to match what they have already said or claimed to be. Once you call yourself a fan of a team, idol, or creator, later asks feel like tests of that identity: merch, limited drops, “real fans do this.” A parasocial bond on social media can make the next yes feel personal. Backing out feels like betraying yourself, not skipping a purchase.
