Beneficiary
A beneficiary is the person or organization named to receive a life insurance payment, called the death benefit, if the insured person dies. The policy owner can usually name more than one beneficiary and can change that choice later.
The beneficiary is not always a family member. For example, a spouse may be listed, or a company may receive the payment on a key employee. The payout can replace lost income or help cover end-of-life costs.
