Assets

Assets

Assets are what a company owns that have economic value. They include cash, inventory, equipment, buildings, and amounts customers still owe. Some assets, called intangibles, have no physical form, such as patents or trademarks.

On the balance sheet, assets are listed by liquidity, or how quickly they can be turned into cash. Current assets are expected to be used or sold within a year; fixed or non-current assets last longer.
