1099

Form 1099 reports income that did not come on a W-2. A business sends it to an independent contractor for pay, and banks and brokers send other 1099s for interest, dividends, and investment sales. The form tells you and the IRS what was paid. Tax is often not withheld, so you report that income on your Form 1040 and pay the tax yourself.
