Dilution

Dilution

Dilution happens when a company issues new shares and each existing share stands for a smaller fraction of the business. You can hold the same number of shares and own less of the company. Firms issue shares to raise money, to pay employees, or to complete a deal. Dilution changes the ownership percentage. A move in the share price that day is a separate event.
