Seniority

Seniority

Seniority is a workplace rule that rewards time on the job. Workers who have been there longer often get first pick of shifts, overtime, or protection if the company has to cut staff. In many union contracts, the last people hired are the first laid off. Age is not what counts. A 22-year-old hired two years ago outranks a 40-year-old hired last month.
