Prior Authorization
A concept in health insurance where an insured person may be required to get permission from their health insurance provider before getting some medical procedure, otherwise the insurance company will not cover the cost. Seeking prior authorization gives the insurance company the chance to identify if they have some other provider in their network to give the same procedure for cheaper, or if it is medically necessary or cosmetic.
