Economics Of Scale

Economies Of Scale

Economies of scale occur when the average cost of making a product falls as a company produces more of it. Buying in bulk is a common reason: a bakery making two loaves may buy a small bag of flour, while a bakery making hundreds of loaves can buy from a wholesaler at a lower price per pound. This can also act as a barrier to entry, because large firms can keep prices lower than new competitors.
